The most meaningful scene in the Christmas story, painted section by numbered section. Mary kneels in prayer beside the manger, the Christ child glowing with a golden halo in the hay below. Joseph stands beside her with his shepherd's staff. The three wise men approach with their gifts, robed in rich red, purple, and green. A lamb rests in the foreground, a donkey and ox watch from the stable, and lanterns cast warm golden light across the scene. Above it all, the star of Bethlehem blazes with light that floods down through the stable roof and illuminates everything beneath it. This is one of the most detailed and emotionally resonant Christmas canvases in our collection, and a genuinely beautiful piece of wall art when finished.

A Note From Our Founder

William Murdock, Founder, Paint On Numbers Canada

"Start with the deep blue night sky and stable structure to establish the scene, then work through the hay and foreground details before painting the figures. The star of Bethlehem and its light ray down through the stable is the most important section visually, so take your time with those golden tones and make sure they are fully dry before painting anything adjacent to them. Paint the faces of Mary, Joseph, and the Christ child last. They carry the entire emotional weight of the painting and deserve your most focused attention."

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this suitable for beginners?

This is a detailed design with multiple figures and complex lighting sections, so we recommend it for painters who have completed at least one kit before. The large stable, sky, and hay sections give beginners approachable areas to start with, while the robes, faces, and star light effects require more careful attention. Our expert tips guide is essential reading before starting a canvas this detailed.

How long does this kit take to complete?

A 40x50 cm canvas typically takes 15 to 22 hours across many sessions given the number of figures and the detail in the robes, halos, and lantern light. Start it in September or October to have it finished and framed comfortably before Christmas. Our complete time guide gives estimates at every canvas size.

Would this make a meaningful Christmas gift?

Yes. For anyone who celebrates the spiritual meaning of Christmas, a hand-painted nativity scene is one of the most thoughtful and lasting gifts imaginable. The finished canvas can be displayed every Christmas season as a permanent piece of meaningful wall art.

Can I frame this when it's finished?

Yes. The stretched-on-frame option arrives ready to hang immediately. The rolled canvas fits standard frame sizes available at most Canadian home stores. A finished nativity scene is a genuinely beautiful and meaningful piece of art for any home during the Christmas season and beyond.
